Yuantouzhu on Lake Tai
Lakeside paths, cherry trees in spring and views across the island-dotted water.
无锡 · Destination
A lake city between Suzhou and Nanjing — cherry blossoms on Lake Tai, a film-set kingdom and a quiet Ming garden.

Wuxi sits on the northern shore of Lake Tai, one of China’s largest freshwater lakes, and has been a trading and canal city for more than two thousand years. It is a short train ride from both Suzhou and Shanghai, which makes it an easy addition to a Jiangnan tour.
The lake is the star: Yuantouzhu, a peninsula shaped like a turtle’s head, is famous for its spring cherry blossoms and wide views over the water. Nearby, the Three Kingdoms City is a vast film set built for the classic TV series, with live battle shows and boats styled as ancient warships.
In town, Huishan old town gathers ancestral halls along a branch of the Grand Canal, and the Ming-dynasty Jichang Garden “borrows” the pagoda on the hill above into its view — a lesson in Chinese garden design in a single glance.
